Summer in Columbia means outdoor movies and Merriweather cranking the volume straight through Labor Day. July leads with the loudest holiday of the year – Independence Day, extra big as the country turns 250 – and barely slows down once the smoke clears.
Outdoor concerts, movie nights by the water, farm beer, and fireworks over Lake Kittamaqundi. Here's what we circled this month.
🎆 Howard County's July 4th Fireworks – Saturday, July 4
The county throws the big one at the Downtown Columbia Lakefront, and it's free. Food trucks roll in at 5, Chasing Straights plays at 6, and Americana star Dom Flemons & The Traveling Wildfires take the stage at 7:30. Fireworks burst over Lake Kittamaqundi around 9:15. Park free at the Mall in Columbia, the Merriweather District, or Symphony Woods Garage – there's no parking at the Lakefront itself. Rain date: July 5.
🍺 Fourth of July Weekend at Manor Hill – July 3–5
Howard County's first farm brewery makes a three-day thing of Independence Day: live music, farm-brewed beer, and brick-oven pizza on the Ellicott City farm. Frank Florence plays Saturday, Evelyn Acht closes it out Sunday.
🎤 The Merriweather Lineup – All Month
Merriweather is packed all July. Grab a lawn spot for any of these and you won’t regret it. Shout out to MD legends O.A.R.!

🎶 Summer Sounds Series – Fridays and Sundays
The village centers run a "Liberty & Lemonade" string of free, family-friendly evenings with live music and activities. River Hill in Clarksville goes Friday, July 3; Harpers Choice follows Sunday, July 5.
🎭 Toby's Dinner Theatre: Mean Girls – All month
Fetch finally happens in Columbia. Toby's pairs its buffet with the Broadway musical of the cult comedy, with matinees and evening shows all month.
🍦 Mike's Gelato 10th Anniversary Party – Sunday, July 12
The neighborhood gelato shop turns 10 and celebrates the only sensible way – with a whole lot of gelato.
