Good morning, Columbia. Here's a fact to drop at the farm stand this month: strawberries aren't actually berries (bananas technically are), and the average strawberry wears around 200 seeds ā all on the outside.
In todayās Columbia Scoop:

HoCo kids hit Carnegie
Letās get to it.

FOOD & DRINK
ROCO Kitchen + Coffee is done with the soft stuff

Photo: Howard County Executiveās office
ROCO Kitchen + Coffee just made it official.
The Hickory Ridge spot we first told you about in March ā when it soft-opened with a stripped-down "ROCO 1.0" menu ā just threw its grand opening weekend.
If you missed the first lap:
The basics: 6430 Freetown Rd, parked in an old Howard Bank with the drive-thru to prove it. House-made donuts, breakfast tacos, three kinds of waffles, a smash burger, and Alma Coffee.
Owners Samantha Rocco-Canfield and Brad Canfield always promised a bigger menu was coming. Grand opening means it's go time.

THINGS TO DO
LakeFest turns the lakefront into a free, three-day art party
Columbia's lakefront is about to get loud, weird, and wonderful.
LakeFest, the unofficial kickoff of summer, takes over the Downtown Columbia Lakefront this weekend. And the headliner isn't a band. Italian vertical dance company eVenti Verticali will perform SPHERE up to 60 feet in the air.
That said, there will be a ton of live music on the new LakeStage including Nik West, Ariel Posen, Tartan Terrors, and Garifuna Collective.
Also on the bill: 50+ artisans, food trucks, a beer garden, and crafts for kids.
LakeFest is June 12ā14 with the following hours.
Friday, June 12: 5ā10 PM (eVenti Verticali at 9:20 PM)
Saturday, June 13: 11 AM ā 10 PM (eVenti Verticali at 12:55 & 9:20 PM)
Sunday, June 14: 11 AM ā 7 PM (eVenti Verticali at 12:55 PM)
