THE DIGEST
Columbia Teen Sensation Closes in on Olympic Pace
Thirteen-year-old Mya Arrendell of Glenwood stunned spectators at Philadelphia’s Grand Slam Future Championships, dominating the 13–14 400m in 53.55 seconds—time that would’ve won older girls’ divisions and outran Maryland’s top public-school athletes. Training under coach Teyarnte Carter, she’s not just fast, she’s strategic—tracking Olympic-caliber performers and racing with composure beyond her years. ($)
Grief Turns to Fury in Howard County Courtroom
A Howard County courtroom erupted in chaos after two grieving parents lunged at the man accused of killing their sons. Marshay Eaddy and Michael Robertson struck 18-year-old Emmetson Zeah during his May arraignment, overcome by grief and fury. Both now face assault charges—and a justice system under scrutiny for failing their families. ($)
Howard County residents using Maryland’s health insurance exchange could see rates jump nearly 17% next year. With federal subsidies expiring, state leaders fear 70,000 Marylanders might lose coverage—just when staying healthy is more expensive than ever. With 10,000 Howard County residents receiving health insurance through the exchange, these changes will adversely affect the county. Businesses face smaller hikes, but the sticker shock is real. ($)
White Hot: Glenelg Midfielder Named Player of the Year
Kayleigh White plays like she is powered by rocket fuel. The Glenelg senior and Howard County Player of the Year scored a county-best 71 goals, grabbed 108 ground balls, and did it all with grit, heart, and zero flash. A true two-way threat, she now takes that unstoppable motor to High Point. ($)
