Girls’ flag football is officially coming to Howard County — and it's about time. Thanks to a partnership with the Baltimore Ravens, Rec & Parks will launch a pilot season this fall that looks and feels just like a high school sport. We’re talking uniforms, school colors, playoffs, and a championship.
The program fills the gap between fall sports and winter break, giving girls a legit shot to compete in one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Clinics kick off in October, with games starting in November. If all goes well, the school system plans to make girls’ flag a full varsity sport at all 13 high schools by fall 2026.
Nearly 350 girls have already shown interest, and county leaders are confident they’ll have enough players to fill rosters. It’s more than just a new sport — it’s a chance to open doors that have been locked for way too long.
