Howard County football kicks off two weeks ago with a big question: Can anyone bring home a state title for the first time since River Hill did it in 2012? Several teams—and a few standout players—might just have the answer.
Oakland Mills made a deep run last season and looks dangerous again, even after graduating star QB Isaac Ramsey. Watch out for rb’s Kasen Bien-Aime and Shaevon Scott—a thunder-and-lightning backfield ready to carry the load behind one of the county’s best offensive lines.
Howard lost Defensive Player of the Year Cam Demma, who’s now playing at Howard University. But don’t count the Lions out. They return all-purpose weapon Darius Moore and breakout receiver Adler Jean, both of whom will be key for new quarterback Donte Jones.
Atholton’s offense runs through veteran QB Tyler Bell, with deep-threat Zay Johnson and rising wideout Zahir Myrick-Brown giving him plenty of targets. The Raiders could be one of the most balanced teams in the county.
Over at Guilford Park, second-year QB A’Yar Reed-Wright is ready to make noise after scoring 12 touchdowns last season. His backfield partner, Tyler Lee, brings speed and toughness to a team that returns nearly everyone from its first varsity year.
And don’t sleep on Marriotts Ridge. The Mustangs are still dangerous, especially with dominant edge rusher Cayden Fricke and slot receiver Sebi Alonson leading the way on both sides of the ball.
With new faces, big shoes to fill, and postseason dreams across the board, HoCo football is stacked with talent and hungry for hardware. The road to Navy Stadium starts now.
