Howard County’s Release of Convicted Rapist Sparks ICE Backlash

Howard County and federal law enforcement are at odds. Howard County released a convicted rapist—twice—thanks to its Liberty Act, which bars holding detainees for ICE. Alex Yonatan Flores-Arce was finally picked up by feds after failing to check in with parole. Local officials say they’re bound by county law, but the back-and-forth with ICE is fueling controversy and frustration in Howard.

Seniors Snubbed as Feds Crack Down on Race-Based Awards

Howard County’s got some graduation drama. Thanks to a federal directive, schools can’t hand out scholarships or awards linked to race, leaving students and community groups fuming. These moments matter — they celebrate struggle, success, and resilience. But the community isn’t backing down. Local groups are stepping in with their own ceremonies to honor and uplift these students. That’s the real community spirit! ($)
