Good morning, Columbia. A massive cow went viral on social media over the weekend for wandering into traffic and causing quite a jam near Arundel Mills Mall in Anne Arundel County. I heard he was coming back from a job interview at Chick-fil-A to be their first ever billboard model with brown stripes instead of black.

In today’s Columbia Scoop:

  • Blue Angels in Annapolis

  • Community sports hall of fame, paint with kittens

  • Paint with kittens

Let’s get to it.

CHAOS IN COLUMBIA

Police called as CA board meeting boils over

The Columbia Association's board meeting Thursday night turned into a standing-room-only spectacle — boos, multiple recesses, and four county officers escorting one resident out.

The flashpoint: last month's removal of three board members. The dispute traces back to a fall ethics complaint by Reg Avery (Long Reach), Karin Emery (Oakland Mills), and Eric Greenberg (River Hill), who accused the chair of leaking Greenberg's confidential ratings of the CEO. The ethics panel rejected that complaint, then found their filing was "frivolous and retaliatory," and the board voted them out in a closed session. The trio says it's retribution.

A few things worth knowing:

  • A Howard County judge denied the ousted members' restraining order to be reinstated Thursday morning on procedural grounds.

  • Two state delegates have asked the Maryland Attorney General to review the removals.

Chair Collin Sullivan was renominated once the meeting settled. The next board meeting is June 25.

WORTH THE DRIVE

Blue Angels in Annapolis

For those of you who don’t know, Columbia Scoop has a sister publication called Naptown Scoop in Annapolis. And while we normally keep things separate, some stuff is just too good not share.

If you have the time, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team is coming to Annapolis tomorrow and Wednesday. It’s part of the Naval Academy’s Commissioning Week festivities but it’s become a beloved Annapolis tradition even for folks with zero connection to the Academy other than living in Annapolis.

We’re betting on Tuesday vs. Wednesday because of the weather. If you’re interested, Naptown Scoop has a comprehensive guide that should answer all of your questions. If not, just reply to this email! We’ll make sure it gets to the right person.
