Pell Grant Cuts Could Rock Howard Community College

Howard Community College students could soon feel the squeeze. Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” will slash Pell Grants—cutting aid and raising credit requirements for eligibility. Howard Community College says up to 30% of its students could lose funding. Leaders are scrambling to plug the gap before enrollment takes a major hit. ($)

THE DIGEST
Closed for Savings But Open To Confusion
Hot, frustrated, and locked out—Howard County’s George Howard Building was closed a few Friday’s ago for an “Energy Saving Day,” catching residents off guard in the summer heat. With phones unanswered and doors shut, folks chasing permits or licenses weren’t thrilled to learn that staff were working from home—while they braved the 90-degree temps.
Gaslighting, Literally—Why It’s Time to Rethink “Natural” Gas
Howard County has a chance to make a big impact with a small change—discourage methane gas in new buildings. It’s bad for the planet, worse for your lungs, and only getting pricier. With clean, electric alternatives ready to roll, Councilmembers could make HoCo healthier, safer, and smarter—if they’ve got the guts.
